This past week has been so gloomy and rainy that I’ve been dreaming up all the pretty spring looks I want to trot out. Lately I’ve been drifting towards flawless skin, giant eyelashes, and matte hot pink lipstick. Like my own toned-down version of Japanese Kawaii.
Speaking of flawless skin, have you tried a BB Cream yet? I had been seeing BB Creams pop up in every magazine I read, every beauty website I perused. So I thought I’d give it a shot. I really like it! I’m used to using tinted moisturizer, and BB Cream is like that – only on steroids. So much better for your skin than pore-clogging foundation.
I’ve gathered a few of my spring look essentials above – enjoy!

So I went and saw the movie Nine yesterday. Not only did it make me want to desperately travel to Italy, it made me want to travel to Italy, circa 1963. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve always been mildly (okay, completely) obsessed with the early to mid ’60s time period. People dressed up to fly on planes, ladies wore hats and gloves everywhere, men wore skinny ties and drank highballs after work. Glam glam glam!
And the makeup, the makeup! Makeup was taken to a whole new level during that time period. One of my inspirations to get into makeup in the first place was Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. The pale pink lip, the thick black cat-eye eye liner, so delicious.
I wear a toned-down, new millenium version of this look just about every day. When it comes to eye liner, I’ve tried them all – ALL OF THEM. I have a whole bag of pencils, just wasting away in my beauty closet (yes, my beauty closet). But I could never find anything that wouldn’t run, smudge, fade away within five minutes, or be flexible enough to as subtle or dramatic as I wanted it. But then I was given some eye liner as a gift – not a pencil, not liquid – it is what I would call “soft liner”. It’s called “Fluidline” by MAC. I use a flat line brush, dip it in the pot, and line away. It can be smudged right after application, for something more smokey, or you can let it set and I’m telling you – it won’t budge!
So to feel fab, I’ll line my eyes in this stuff, slap on a pretty shiny gloss, zip up my shift dress, step into my kitten heels and hop on my Vespa.
